Ø  Enamoeba histolytica was discovered by – Lamble.

Ø  Pathogenic nature was discovered by – Losch.

Ø  Enamoeba histolytica is monogenetic intestinal parasite and causes Amoebic dysentery or amoebiasis.

Ø  The parasite possesses single broad Pseudopodium or lobopodium. It does not possess contractile vacuoles.

Ø  It is dimorphic having non-pathogenic minuta and pathogenic magna or trophozoite stage.

Ø  The trophozoite damages intestinal wall and produces ulcers.

Ø  Amoebiasis results in abdominal pain and loose-motions having mucus and blood.

Ø  The infection is transmitted form old to new host by tetranucleate cysts through contaminated food or water.

Ø  In Entamoeba histolytica, the presence of chromoids bodies is characteristic of Precystic stage.

Ø  Metronidazole is the most effective amoebicide against Amoebiasis.

Ø  Entamoeba differs from Amoeba in absence of contractile vacuole.

Ø  Entamoeba gingivalis lives in between the teeth and gums.
