ร˜  Enamoeba histolytica was discovered by โ€“ Lamble.

ร˜  Pathogenic nature was discovered by โ€“ Losch.

ร˜  Enamoeba histolytica is monogenetic intestinal parasite and causes Amoebic dysentery or amoebiasis.

ร˜  The parasite possesses single broad Pseudopodium or lobopodium. It does not possess contractile vacuoles.

ร˜  It is dimorphic having non-pathogenic minuta and pathogenic magna or trophozoite stage.

ร˜  The trophozoite damages intestinal wall and produces ulcers.

ร˜  Amoebiasis results in abdominal pain and loose-motions having mucus and blood.

ร˜  The infection is transmitted form old to new host by tetranucleate cysts through contaminated food or water.

ร˜  In Entamoeba histolytica, the presence of chromoids bodies is characteristic of Precystic stage.

ร˜  Metronidazole is the most effective amoebicide against Amoebiasis.

ร˜  Entamoeba differs from Amoeba in absence of contractile vacuole.

ร˜  Entamoeba gingivalis lives in between the teeth and gums.
