Ø Enamoeba histolytica was discovered by – Lamble.
Ø Pathogenic nature was discovered by – Losch.
Ø Enamoeba histolytica is monogenetic intestinal parasite and causes Amoebic dysentery or amoebiasis.
Ø The parasite possesses single broad Pseudopodium or lobopodium. It does not possess contractile vacuoles.
Ø It is dimorphic having non-pathogenic minuta and pathogenic magna or trophozoite stage.
Ø The trophozoite damages intestinal wall and produces ulcers.
Ø Amoebiasis results in abdominal pain and loose-motions having mucus and blood.
Ø The infection is transmitted form old to new host by tetranucleate cysts through contaminated food or water.
Ø In Entamoeba histolytica, the presence of chromoids bodies is characteristic of Precystic stage.
Ø Metronidazole is the most effective amoebicide against Amoebiasis.
Ø Entamoeba differs from Amoeba in absence of contractile vacuole.
Ø Entamoeba gingivalis lives in between the teeth and gums.
